Stepper motor drivers
Stepper motors have many useful applications. I have used them in many
applications where accurate incremental movement is needed like in
robots and CNC machines.
A3977 driver
The allegro A3977 chip is a 2.5A microstepping stepper motor driver
with integrated driver and control logic. It has integrated
microstepping modes and current control for accurate motor control. I
have made a stepper motor driver that uses this chip.

CPLD driver
The A3977 has its advantages but as always I wanted to see if it could
be done better. My first requirements where higher stepping resolution
and higher current. The first is hard to do but higher current was well
within range. To increase the current I have used IRF half bridge
driver with integrated deadtime and IRF MOSFET's. These increase the
current per phase to about 9A. This is more then enough for all but the
more powerful stepper motors.
